Week 1: Blog Post #2 - Leadership post: To Publish or To Present

Week 1: Blog Post #2 - Leadership post: To Publish or To Present
After doing a bit of research about whether I want to "Publish and Article" or "Present at a Conference," I have come to the conclusion that (even though I am usually not afraid to speak to large crowds) the idea of speaking at a conference really makes me nervous.  I am usually the last one to want to hide behind the words of an article, but it's looking more and more appealing to me.  There are so many questions that run through my head:  What if my content isn't "Academic" enough?  What if I fumble my words while delivering my presentation?  What if I have too much to say for such a "short" amount of presentation time?  Will my audience relate to my content?  Which conference would I speak at?  These are just a few of my worries...

On the other hand, speaking has always come second nature to me.  If I choose to write it all down in an article, who will I reach?  Will my writing stay on a shelf collecting dust?  Will I engage the reader?  Do I have the ability or skills to create such an important piece of academia?  I know that I can take me time and write... and then re-write, but will is ever be good enough for my standards?  I would love to publish a piece of my writing.  It could be one of those things that will distinguish me from anyone else.  Not many people out there that I know can really say, "Yeah, my work has been published."  I think I just might...  *smiles*

  1. Thanks for sharing your thought process... it is so hard to determine the best way to share one's message, but it's good to begin somewhere. Good luck.
