WELCOME to MY World!
I am a 1st grade teacher in San Jose, CA, and am very passionate about my career. I started teaching in 2005, but have worked with children since I was in high school. I have worked very hard to earn my BA (US History & Education minor) and MA (Education & CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential) degrees and I'm currently enrolled in the MS Degree Education Media Design & Technology Program (as you might already know).
I am an only child, but am not the typical spoiled brat. I am often referred to as a very generous, open, and loving person. I'm the type of person to make sure that I have all of my things done & ready, so that I can start helping others in need. I have always been that way and I will continue to be that way... it's just who I am.
I love to hang out with my friends and do so on a daily basis. They keep me sane! I absolutely LOVE traveling. I have been to many countries (ranging from the Hawaii, the Caribbean, Canada & Mexico, to about 13 different countries within Europe & 1 in Asia. I am going back to (Kauai) Hawaii in December with my parents and my roomie, but it's my parent's first time going!!! I'm really excited to show them around!
I've included a picture of me and my parents because they are a HUGE part of my life. They have supported my every move in life and are proud of the fact that I have become a teacher, but they are even more proud that I have decided to continue my education by getting a 2nd (yup, you heard me... T...W...O...) Masters Degree.
I chose this program because I really wanted to "step up" my teaching game and begin to incorporate more technology into my practice. Times are changing and I think that teachers need to evolve with the times. I am going on my 7th year in teaching and I am lucky enough to be currently located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, here in San Jose, California.
For the first 3 years, I taught in a migrant farmer-worker community where technology wasn't easily available. However, when I moved to San Jose the district handed me a laptop and said, "Make Wonders Happen..." Boy was there a twinkle in my eye! This will be my 4th year in the district and each year I have tried to incorporate something new. Hopefully, this EMDT Program can help me strengthen my teaching practice and help support and influence my colleagues to start to prepare our 21st Century students by giving them the 21st Century skills that they need to be successful in school...and in life.
